Many of the pictures were taken without the subject's knowledge, and a lot of them have been proven to have been shot in a way that would be considered highly invasive, even by the standards of paparazzi photographers. In addition to this, very few of them bear any resemblance to the way that the women actually look. Although she has already suffered from a backlash from her fans before, this time it was far more severe. Her past albums have been criticized for being too "vanilla" and lacking any interesting tracks for years now, but this time she was met with far more condemnation due to her decision to publicly humiliate these unsuspecting women. She did not simply post the images and risk her career by allowing fans to make their own judgments on them; she actively attempted to use them as a marketing tool for her upcoming album. While many would be quick to call this an example of feminism in action, it is quite the contrary. This is another example of the ongoing backlash against feminism that has been ongoing for years now. Feminism claims that women should be free from sexual objectification, but when Lady Gaga promotes the exact opposite message then this new age feminism does not seem so different from traditional femininity after all. She claims that she is using these young women as art, and yet these young women did not consciously participate in creating any art for her album launch. She acts as though she knows what they want because she is a woman, but she does not know anything at all. She is trying to gain control over the lives of other women in order to ensure that their bodies remain in a state of perpetual disgrace so that she can have her fun. In reality, the only thing that the people who were depicted in these pictures have done wrong was being in close proximity to a woman who has achieved great success at a young age and is now attempting to put it all down on paper. Nobody deserves this kind of public humiliation. Lady Gaga, or any other woman for that matter, should not be allowed to violate the privacy of another human being in order to satisfy her own selfish desires. She should be ashamed of herself, and she should apologize to all of the women who were directly affected by this stunt. These women cannot avoid the internet forever; it is only a matter of time before their names and faces start appearing on countless websites and social media pages across the world. They deserve better than Lady Gaga's new age feminism which wants to use them simply as objects while claiming that they are using their bodies as art.
